What are PEO and its limited license? 

PEO is an acronym for Professional Engineers Ontario. It is empowered under the Professional Engineers Act to set up the standards for admission and to regulate the engineering practice in the province for the service and protection of the public interest.

PEO limited license Experience requirements: 

An applicant who fulfills the experience requirements given in here will have confirmation that they can exercise sound engineering judgment, function on multidisciplinary teams, and communicate effectively in the work environment and with society at large.

This experience should be taken as a first step in the lifelong learning process to ensure continuing competency as a limited licensee holder.

The period of supervised engineering experience gives an internship for an individual who has the required academic qualifications to have a limited license.

The authority, PEO, examines the quality, duration, nature, and currency of all applicants’ experience with one or more employers, and assesses this experience against the given criteria.

Individuals and firms giving experience opportunities play the role of referees in the licensing process.

For a PEO limited license, you have to: 

Have a three-year degree or diploma in an engineering science or technology program or hold equivalent educational qualifications, with the knowledge that harmonizes with the scope of services within the practice of professional engineering to be given under the limit licenses;

Show a minimum of 8 years of experience in the practice of professional engineering

Have a minimum of six years of experience harmonizing with the scope of services within the practice of professional engineering to be given under the limited licenses, and

Have a minimum of four of those six years’ experience attained in a Canadian jurisdiction under the supervision of one or more people with legal authority to engage in the practice of professional engineering in a Canadian jurisdiction;

Pass the Professional Practice Examination;

Show that you are of good character; and

Pay the applicable fees as per the Regulation.

(Engineering experience has to be in harmony with the candidate’s proposed scope of the limited licenses).
