Each MBOX’s family format was first used in different email clients, which are supported Unix platform. If you want to know more about .mbox file extension then go here: outlook tasks

Why is there a need to import mbox to Outlook

As we already discussed in above that MBOX extension store only emails but day by day every user needs more secure and advanced featured products like MS Outlook. MS Outlook is an application of Microsoft office which can store emails, calendars, tasks, meeting arrangements, etc. and most secure & reliable. MS Outlook keeps all data in .pst extension, so if you want to move MBOX to Outlook then you will need to convert MBOX to PST format and migrate MBOX file to Outlook. Some email clients provide manual methods but not fully secure and consume more time on them. Because of the direct import MBOX file to Outlook is impossible.

Here is a manual method one can follow-

Manual method

If you are using Eudora, Thunderbird, Apple mail then you can use this method.

  1. Copy all .mbox file from the default location in Thunderbird, Apple mail etc.
  2. Find your Eudora mailbox: - C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Qualcomm\Eudora\
  3. Paste all MBOX file here and change the extension(.mbx) instead of .mbox (because .mbox and .mbx file structured are same and Outlook allows to import Eudora mailbox)
  4. Open MS Outlook & click on the File tab. Select Import & Export option
  5. Select "import internet files and address" then click next
  6. Select Eudora then click next.
  7. Browse your Eudora file location & Check on Replace duplicate with items imported then click finish button

Manual method has some issues and problems

  1. It will take much time on copy & paste if files are so huge
  2. Before importing .mbx file, first, create a backup because this manual technique may corrupt your file.
  3. It’s not sure that your email formatting will be same as it was.
  4. If the file is very huge you can try one by one according to the mailbox
  5. Only basic fields will be transferred to Outlook.
  6. It can happen that you can’t see the attachment and file preview after import .mbx file.
