She is the current chairman and CFO of the second largest food and beverage business, Pepsico. The 56 year old, native of Chennai did her Bachelor’s from MCC in 1974 and MBA from IIM, Calcutta in 1976. She has been awarded with the prestigious Padma Bhushan for her achievements. She is an inspirational and strong-willed women entrepreneur.

She’s the first Indian woman to graduate from Harvard Business School. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Delhi University. She is the Group General Manager and Country Head of HSBC, India. She is also the non-executive director on the board of Nestle SA and the global advisor at Harvard Business School. No wonder the Indian Government bestowed her with Padma Shri award.

She is MD and CEO of ICICI Bank, a largest private bank in India. She hails from Rajasthan and is married to her business schoolmate, Deepak Kochhar, a wind energy entrepreneur. She did her Masters in Management Studies from Jamnalal Bajaj IMS, Mumbai. She received the Wockhardt Gold Medal for Excellence in Management Studies and J.N Bose Gold Medal in Accountancy.

She was a former Chairperson of Times Group, India’s largest and powerful media house. She has always opinionated her voice for women’s right and women entrepreneurship. Presently, her two sons are running the company. She is the President of FICCI, Ladies Wing and Chairperson of the Bharatiya Jnanpith Trust. She addressed the UN in 2000 at Millennium World Peace Summit of Religious and Spiritual Leaders.

Being the Managing Director of Hewlett-Packard (HP), she rather has a unique story. At the start of her career, she was eager to be a part of FMCG such as Asian Paints and Hindustan Lever. Unfortunately, the company didn’t want a woman to be a part of their marketing and sales effort. She refused to give up. She became the ideal of IT in India by joining the sector in 1980’s when the feminine presence was rare in the industry.

She became the first woman to be a MD and CEO of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in India. She made a stint at chartered accountancy and later joined the project finance division of Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI). She then became the director of NSE and then a member of the Derivatives Panel at SEBI.
